Anything that kills life forms when it is placed on them.

BIOMASS

1. the amount of living matter in an area. 2. the organic matter that is renewable and available.

BIOMETRICS

Using electronics to measure the biological characteristics of a person. Refer to biometric authentication.

BIOREMEDIATION

Reducing the contaminants in soil or water. Microorganisms are used to do this by bioaugmentation. They are introduced as a liquid that will cause them to grow. Refer to phytotreatment.

BIOSPHERE

The atmospheric layer that has the whole terrestrial eco system in it. It has all living things in it and supports soil, water, and air. AKA ecosphere.

BIOTA

Any nonhuman life in the geographical area.

BIOTECHNOLOGY

Using biolog to make industrial copies of naturally occuring substances from the organisms that made them. Genetic engineering is just one example of this technology.

BIOTHERMAL ENERGY

Any energy that comes from composting biological materials. It produces heat and methane that is an alternate to natural gas. It will take more research to make this a more convenient option.

BIOTIC

Any living activity that is produced by an organism. It is the opposite of abiotic.

BIRD DOG

An investor who searches but does not buy a property.

BIT

A digit in binary code. It is a b and is the smallest unit for computing information. The information is stored in 0s and 1s. Refer to byte.

BLACK BOX

Any device whose inputs and outputs are known but not well. The process may not be fully understood or known due to a confidentiality need. Refer to white box.

BLACK BOX MODEL

When the input of advertising is used to study the output or buying.
