CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE

The term used to describe the refusal to obey a law because it is thought to be unfair or undesirable. It is usually non-violent behaviour.

COURT REPORTER

the term that is given to the official stenographer who is employed by the court to write down all that has transpired.

CONJECTURAL EVIDENCE

This term applies to any evidence that is based on an estimate or a guess and is insufficient to form the basis of a conclusion.

CONTRACT WITH SPECIALIST

This occurs when a patient has agreed to undergo a medical or surgical procedure and has agreed to the fee to be paid.

CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY

the document that certifies a building has been completed to conform with zoning and other standards and is ready to be occupied.

CALCULATED RISKS

the term that is used in medical circles where the risks that are involved are weighed against the risks of not operating on a patient.

CONSTRUCTIVE CONTEMPT

a contempt of court that is committed outside of the court where a person refuses to accept a summons.

CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATION

This term is applied to the binding promise or obligation that comes from an agreement or contract.

CONDITIONAL DISMISSAL

the term that applies to discontinuing a suit that is based on a condition being fulfilled.

CUCKOLD

the name given when a man’s wife has been or is unfaithful to him.

CLEAR LEGAL RIGHT

a right that is based on a matter of the law that has been determined by totally accepted facts.

COMPROMISE VERDICT

This term is applied to a verdict where the juries come to a compromise to reach a verdict. It does not conform properly to a trial by jury.

CRIMINAL GROSS NEGLIGENCE

an act of omission or commission where a person demonstrates the wilful disregard to the rights of other people that results in possible or actual harm.

CRIME OF OMISSION

an offense that is categorised by a person’s failing to perform an act that is required.

CLEAR PROOF

the certain proof that is clear and is acceptable to all parties.

CORPORATE MEDICINE

This applies in some states where a group of physicians that form a corporation in order to practice medicine. They still have a personal liability to each patient.
