Upward shift of an economic cycle from a recession to a steady state or expansion. Opposite of downturn.

URBAN

Populated built up area including a municipality with a population greater than 5000.

URBANIZATION

Increase of population in cities versus the rural areas.

USA PATRIOT ACT

Act passed after September 11 2001 giving law enforcement agencies tool to prevent acts of terror.

USABILITY

Speed and ease of using or operating a device, facility or service.

USANCE BILL

Bill of exchange drawn on a governed term of usage in trade or between involved countries.

USEFUL LIFE

Period during which an asset will be able to be used.

USENET

User’s network. Largest electronic bulletin board in the world.

USER

Body with authority to use equipment, applications, systems, etc. But may not be the item’s buyer.

USER COST

Economics. Machine or capital assets reduced value by using it.

USER EXPERIENCE

Outcome of a user interacting with the product and factors making up the perception of the product and its operation.

USER FRIENDLY

Any equipment or application that is designed to be easily understood and easy to use.

USER ID

User Identification Device. Unique name given to the user of a database etc.

USER INTERFACE

Visual portion of the computer application that the user uses to interact with software. See interface.
