SITE ACTIVATION

The preparation of a work site or web site that enables it to perform its intended function.

SKILL VARIETY

The range of abilities that are needed in order to perform a specific task. Jobs requring a lot of different skills are said to need a high skill set.

SLACK PATH

A measurement of being able to move inventory during a small period of time.

SMOOTHING DEMAND

Used in marketing when demand is exceeding production ads and promotional material are withdrawn from the market until production has caught up.

SOCIAL ENTREPRENEUR

A person working in ideas and innovations to improve the life of others and society.

SOCIAL ORIENTATION

A philosophy in business that takes the well being of a society into account as well as the customers’ satisfaction.

SOCIOECONOMIC

The study of economic and social factors influencing a society’s behaviour.

SOFT WATER

Water that does not containe high levels of dissolved solids such as minerals that make it hard to lather. Soft water lathers easily.

SOLAR ENERGY

Energy that is transmitted by the sun in electromagnetic waves. It is the basis fir all life on Earth. It can be harnessed by solar cells, stored and then used.

SOROPTOMY

The opposite of monopoly where a customer is served by a large number of suppliers without the prospect of getting any more.

SOUTH

A collective term applied to all dveloping countries that are located South of a dveloped country that is known as North.

SPECIAL PURPOSE CORPORATION (SPC)

A legal entitiy that is created in order to insulate an issuer of an asset based security from the originator of said asset. A special purpose vehicle.

SALARY STRUCTURE

A list of wages and the associated benefits for each wage level and grade.

SALMONELLOSIS

The gastroenteritis caused by the injestion of salmonella bacteria. Symptoms include vomiting, diarohea, fever and haedache. Fatal to young and elderly patients.

SATIATION

An activities saturation level where the maximum benefit is reached.

SCANDALOUS STATEMENT

Abuse that is either written or spoken that is defamatory or disgraceful in content. If made in court it may be struck from proceedings.

SCIENCE

Knowledge that is comprised of verifiable and measurable facts that hav ebeen acquired by the application of a scientific method.

SCRAMBLING

The deliberate distortion or encoding of a signal to make it unreadable by unauthorized persons.
