HIGH-TICKET ITEMS

Items with high value and cost like jewelry and electronics. They are insurable and extra insurance may be needed.

HIT THE BID

A contract a dealer uses to sell secirites to the highest bidder from another dealer. Compare this term to take the offer.

HOLDOVER AUDIENCE

The percent of audience that has seen or heard the program after the one they were watching. AKA inherited audience.

HOME EQUITY LOAN

A second mortgage the borrower gets to prevent default. The first is paid before the second. AKA home equity debt.

HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION

The part of a home’s value that is exempt from taxes. It reduces the tax burden on the tax payer. It is only for primary residence.

HORIZONTAL EXPANSION

The rate of growth for a company based on current business means. It can mean more locations, stores, outlets, and territory.

HOSPITAL INDEMNITY

Insurance with no coverage amount for a hospital stay. It pays out regularly instead or per incident.

HUNG DEAL

When an underwrite buys unsold securities and than sells them at a discount. This is also called a sticky or stuck deal.

HALO EFFECT

Sharing good feelings about one element of a product or person to another. It can be unrelated. It is different from the devil’s horns.

HANDS-ON INVESTOR

An investor with many shares that is not satisfied or wants to be active in decision making. They influence the company.

HARD MANUFACTURING

Using fixed production equipment to make large amounts of a product. It cannot be easily moved to make room for a new product.

HARMONIZATION

Changing differences on different measurements and procedures or schedules to make them unicorm and compatible.

HEAD HUNTER

A recruitement angency that finds personnel and make them a candidate for a job.

HEAT EXCHANGER

Equipment transfering heat form one item to another. It can be a readiator. Refer to heat sink.

HEAVY MARKET

A market with falling or non changing prices due to buyer shortages. It shows investor uncertainty.

HELD COVERED

1. insurance term for a rule acceptance of insurance risk as long as extended cover exists. 2. AKA direct covered.

HERTZ (HZ)

The unit of frequency per cycle. It can be in kilo hertz or mega hertz or giga hertz.

HIERARCHY OF AUTHORITY

The power structure and authority that increases at higher levels in the hierarchy. The person at the top is most powerful and makes the final decision.

HIGH-YIELD BOND

A BOND issued by a firm with a SUBINVESTMENT GRADE CREDIT RATING (i.e., below BBB by Standard and Poor
