What is TREASURY?

A place or building in which stores of wealth are reposited; particularly, a place where the public revenues are deposited and kept, and where money is dis- bursed to defray the expenses of government Webster. That department of government which is charged with the receipt, custody, and dis- bursement (pursuant to appropriations) of the public revenues or funds.
