PAWNBROKER Definition & Legal Meaning

A person whose business is to lend money, usually in small sums, on security of personal property deposited with him or left in pawn. Little Itock v. Barton, 33 Ark. 444; Schaul v. Charlotte. 118 N. Whoever loans money on deposit or pledges of personal property, or who purchases personal property or choses in action, on condition of selling the same back again at a stipulated price, is hereby defined and declared to be a pawnbroker.
