MAGNETIC STRIPE Definition & Legal Meaning

A narrow rectangular magnetic strip. Bank cards, credit cards, and the like carry one on the back. Information retained on a magnetic stripe can be damaged or wiped out by a strong electrical or magnetic fields. Account number, customer’s personal identification number, and other required information are readable by ATMs, card swipe machines, magnetic stripe readers, and other like devices.
