IMPERITIA Definition & Legal Meaning

Lat. Unskillfulness; want of skill.Imperitia culpa! adnumeratur. Want of skill is reckoned as culpa; that is, as blamableconduct or neglect. Dig. 50, 17, 132.Imperitia est maxima mechanicorum poena. Unskillfulness is the greatest punishmentof mechanics; [that is, from its effect in making them liable to those by whomthey are employed.] 11 Coke, 54a. The word “peena” in some translations iserroneously rendered “fault.”
