HIGHLY LEVERAGED TRANSACTION (HLT) LOAN
Definition and Citations:
A LOAN extended by a BANK to a company that already has a high degree of LEVERAGE. HLT loans may be secured or unsecured, and typically have stringent COVENANTS requiring the leveraged borrower to adhere to various financial operating ratios, including those related to minimum levels of LIQUIDITY and INTEREST COVERAGE.
