GENERAL AGREEMENT ON TARIFFS AND TRADE (GATT)
Definition and Citations:
An agency of the United Nations established in 1948 to promote international free trade. GATT was actively involved in coordinating issues related to multilateral quotas and tariffs, export restraints, and intellectual property rights until it was replaced by its successor, the WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION, in 1994.
