Person or firm that receives by transfer a negotiable instrument when the instrument is signed. The instrument can be a bill of exchange, bill of lading, delivery order, or other document of title. Known also as a transferee or payee, the endorsee becomes a holder-in-due-course upon delivery of the endorsed document.
