When employees are reactive to equipment failure and effectuate repairs only after a failure has occurred on a piece of equipment. Frequently, breakdown maintenance requires a maintenance prioritization system. These systems frequently are ineffective due to worker abuse. The nature of the abuse is caused by a worker rating a needed repair as critical, when it is not, to get breakdown maintenance attention quickly.
