What is DIVISION OF POWERS?

A system of government in the US where certain powers are given to the federal and state governments.

TLD Example: The legalization of certain uses of marijuana in the U.S. is a classic example of a conflict created by the division of powers between the state and federal governments with state laws legalizing the drug conflicting with the federal criminal laws banning its use.
