What is PRIMARY RESERVES?

The total amount required by a financial institution to support its activities. The primary reserves may not be invested or loaned by the institution. However, in the case of a liquidity crisis, when the bank’s account holders start withdrawing large amounts of cash, the primary reserves are called into action.
