What is PRIMARY ACCOUNT NUMBER (PAN)?

A 14 to 16 digit code that is imprinted on a bank card or in its magnetic strip. The PAN provides an identification of the user and his accounts. It usually involves a check digit that is used to authenticate identity or transactions.
