CHECKSUM Definition & Legal Meaning

Definition & Citations:

A documented, pre-planned, mathematically-computed value using a group of data being transmitted that is transferred along with the data. A receiving device compares the checksum with its own computation. If the transmitted checksum matches the receiving value, the transmitted data is accepted for further processing. If it differs from the received checksum, the transmitting device gets a resend request for the data by the intended receiver.
